Climbing – Thursday 19th September to Sunday 29th September 2019
In March this year my daughter Annabel underwent a successful Scoliosis operation at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The medical expertise, the general care, support and rehabilitation was at the time and has since been fantastic: I therefore felt I wanted to give something back and so I signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
At the time I committed to this challenge, I felt I wanted to do something worthwhile as a ‘thank you’, but also to enable others to benefit in the way we as a family have. On reflection, it may also have been the sign of a mid-life crisis, having turned 50 last year?!
Though Scoliosis is a long operation, seven hours, it is nothing compared to what some have to go through and it’s those children I will be thinking about and focusing on, when I have my moments of struggle, on my journey to climb the highest mountain in Africa. The training is going well and I have already received support from many. If you can donate, however much, I would really appreciate it – I assure you will that your donation will make a difference to the incredible work undertaken each and every day at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
